February - Golden Gate and a few losses

The lovely Molly!
Sadly, we’ve lost some of our more special friends over the last three months, beginning with my 26 year old Quarter Horse mare, California Champagne aka Callie, to colic. I purchased Callie as a 2 year old from Chesapeake friends and she’s been an integral part of Sandy Oak ever since.
At the beginning of January, Derrick, our webmaster and new owner of Martha, a Ben/Lacey pup, had to send our wonderful Fire, aka Ch. SandyOak Webfoot Hearts Afire CGC to the rainbow bridge after her health took a bad turn that the vet felt she would not recover from. I thank Derrick, his adorable daughter Kaylee, and his wife Kim for giving Fire a wonderful two years and am so sorry it couldn’t have been longer. Your memory will live on.
And, the weekend of Cow Palace, my beloved Jazz, aka Sandy Oak Touch O’Honey Jazz RN CGC, had a major stroke at 13 ½ years of age and had to be put to sleep. I knew Jazz’s time was coming eventually because of her advanced age, but that morning she seemed perfectly fine when we left for the Cow Palace, so it was all very sudden. Jazz was my constant companion, nurse, guard, mother, friend and a constant reminder of all the wonderful memories of both her grandfather, my Rusty and her grandmother, my Star. Rusty was still with us when Jazz was born and a lot of him rubbed off on her!! It’s never easy to accept the loss of our favorite companions no matter when or how it happens...we will miss Jazz a lot and for a long time to come.
Out with a bang.. goodbye 2011!! Hello 2012!
It's been a great year for us here at Sandy Oak...Lacey and Ben had another litter of 10 beautiful pups....the photos and videos are still on the website. We encourage anyone with pups from this litter to send their photos in to me and we will post them on a special page on the website for this litter. I kept a lovely bitch pup from the litter who we are calling Molly, registered name is Sandy Oak's Earth Wind & Fire. Annie, aka GrCh. Sandy Oak's Wish Upon A Star RN CGC finished her Grand Championship last month handled by both Catherine Collins, her co-owner, and myself. Also, to anyone who has not yet sent in your pup's AKC registration application to AKC, pleeease do so as there are benefits from AKC available to all who have registered pups including their Companion Animal Recovery program should your pup be lost. More Good News From Mensona
Pictured Annie, i.e. Ch. Sandy Oak Wish Upon A Star RN CGC, at the Mensona Kennel Club handled by myself to a Best of Opposite Sex win and a 5 point major towards Annie's Grand Championship title under the esteemed judge, Mrs. Suzanne Dillin at the Mensona Kennel Club show on August 28th! Annie only needs a couple more points to finish her title now.
Another win photo of Sandy Oak's Oh Henry! going Winners Dog and Best of Winners for a 3 point major (his first major win) also under Mrs. Suzanne Dillin @ the Mensona Kennel Club show on August 28th and handled by my friend and County-Wide DTC conformation class instructor Jan McCarthy, who stepped in at the last minute to show Henry when Catherine had a ring conflict and couldn't get there in time! Thank you Jan!
